Meet Dr. Wulff
Dr. Wulff lives and practices locally. She became a chiropractor after injuring herself while working as a pastry chef 15 years ago. Chiropractic not only offered her relief from her back injury but also helped her Migraine headaches. She was able to stop taking the strong prescription medications she had been on for years and regained control of her health. Because of these wonderful results Dr. Wulff made the commitment to go to school to become a chiropractor.
Dr. Wulff graduated from Life Chiropractic College West in 2012 and completed a post-graduate NUCCA residency in San Francisco. She has been practicing in her Dublin office for 3½ years and is happy to be serving the community she lives in with her family.
Chiropractic, what is it?
Misalignments of the spine put pressure on nerves leading to pain, loss of function and disease. These vertebral misalignments, called subluxations, can be caused by small physical stressors over time, or larger more noticeable traumas. Chiropractic care removes misalignments of the spine, called Subluxations, which put pressure on the spinal cord and brain stem.
The spinal cord is an extension of the brain and relays information from the brain to the body parts and vice versa. Subluxations interfere with the nerves’ ability to convey this vital information. The nervous system controls and coordinates the function of ALL the systems in the body including the circulatory, respiratory, digestive, hormonal, and immune system. The chiropractic adjustment restores nerve system function allowing the body the ability to express a greater state of health and well-being.
How is NUCCA different?
NUCCA looks at the ROOT CAUSE of ALL spinal instability, The Atlas (top bone in the neck) and Brain stem. By correcting a misalignment of this part of the spine we are able to align and stabilize the whole spine and body; leading to greater health optimal function of the body. The goal of the NUCCA doctor is to see and adjust you as little as possible, we want your body to stabilize and heal itself.
Can kids have a Subluxation?
According to doctors at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, AZ:
“Birth related spinal cord injuries appears to be under diagnosed… In birth injuries, the upper cervical spine or the cervicothoracic junction is usually affected. However, any level of the spinal cord can be involved, and the involvement of multiple levels is not uncommon.“
Subluxation can be caused by physical, chemical and/or emotional stress. Physical stress may start in the womb, with the baby lying in an abnormal position.
Further stress may be caused by a traumatic or difficult birth which can introduce great pressure to the infant’s skull, spinal column and pelvis.
Throughout childhood, the normal childhood traumas every child experiences can be a source of spinal and cranial trauma. Children’s bones don’t fully ossify until late puberty. Children tend to have less “lasting” pain/symptoms than adults but more spinal instability; this is why car seats are so important. Most of the time, the pain from the initial injury “goes away” however the damage incurred continues to affect the future function of the child’s nerve system.
Signs and Symptoms of childhood subluxation:
- Frequent Illness
- Ear infections
- Trouble sleeping
- Trouble Concentrating
- Frequent outbursts
- Inability to sit still
- Digestive issues
Life for the newborn depends upon the preservation and healthy functioning of the brain stem and spinal cord at the level of the upper neck.” -Abraham Towbin, Harvard Medical School
Signs an infant may need a spinal correction:
- Head tilt
- Turn their head only one way/prefers to turn to one side most of the time
- Trouble nursing
- Prefers to nurse on one side only
- Inconsolable Crying
- Digestive irregularities
- Failure to thrive
- Skull asymmetry
- Body asymmetry
- Trouble, sitting, crawling or walking
- Not hitting milestones
A series of posture, muscle and neurologic evaluations lets the Dr. know if a baby needs correction and how to apply the correction.
The doctor applies gentle pressure to the upper part of the spine, reliving pressure from the brainstem and allowing the infant’s system to function at 100%.
